Are wedding favors really necessary?
How important is it to give a wedding favor to guests? Well, a wedding favor is considered to be a small gift, a token of appreciation and thanks to guests from the couple getting married. Deciding on what to do for a wedding favor might feel a little daunting if ideas are at a loss. But this part of the wedding planning can actually be a lot of fun. It’s a chance for couples to get more personal, creative, and really make a lasting impression on their guests.
Do you remember Jordan Almonds?
Traditionally, five Jordan Almonds presented in a confection box or wrapped in elegant fabric to represent fertility, longevity, wealth, health and happiness. The bitterness of the almond and the sweetness of the coated candy are a metaphor for the bitter sweetness of a marriage” - Wikipedia
Today we see so many different ideas and almost never Jordan Almonds alone. But an edible wedding favor is still a top choice and go-to for many couples. Who wouldn’t want something tasty to snack on for later? How many times have you been to a wedding and forgot to grab a favor on the way out, or see trinkets left behind on the table? This is why I just love edibles, most won’t go to waste.
What about a goody bag?
Candy, sweet bars allow guests to pick and choose what they’d like to take home. I’ve always LOVED this idea because it’s not only such an eye pleasing wow factor but something for guests to take part in and enjoy. Check out my Yummy Bar board on Pinterest. There are so many ideas and creative ways to display wedding favor bars. Having a Candy sweet bar or any type of bar at a wedding will totally make a statement and have guests raving for years.
Themed weddings can help with even more ideas. Fall/Winter weddings, maybe hot chocolate in a jar or seasoned pumpkin seeds, candied almonds or mixed nuts. A wedding at Christmas, what about an ornament? Spring/Summer plants or seeds, let love grow.
Donation cards have also become popular in recent years. A card is left on each plate setting or one per table informing guests a donation has been made in their honor to a charity/s chosen by the newlywed couple. I absolutely adore this selfless idea to raise awareness by doing something so special and good. With most guest lists having a headcount of close to if not well over 100 people, this is making an impact. Another wedding wow favor that guests will share with their families and friends for years.
Another mega trend for wedding favors are photo keepsakes. Most photographers and DJs include a photo booth as part of their wedding package or as an add-on service. Many couples opt for a photo booth at their wedding for additional entertainment and fun, and for a wedding favor keepsake thanking guests. The photo booth typically prints two copies, one for the guest to take home and another for the newlyweds wedding guest book or memory album.
Many wedding favors can double up with a seating card or tag. Take a look through my Favors & Gift Ideas Pinterest board for more.
